About Us
Contemporary Christians have been challenged of late to consider the work that God is doing in a particular setting and join Him (credit Henry Blackaby). Process for Literacy ConneXus takes a peculiar slant in terms of working with others in communities. Some have chosen to do literacy missions without much awareness of what was going on in their community among literacy providers. The assumption that literacy needs are great (see Statistics) led them to begin teaching English or teaching basic literacy. Others have cooperated closely with literacy councils or other community-based efforts.

Literacy Connexus encourages the latter approach. We encourage coming alongside the community asking questions like, “What is going on here?” and “How may we help?” Without diminishing our commitment to being missional, we look for opportunities to work with others. We expect that God is working in communities with others to accomplish His purposes.

In some settings, collaborations with local literacy providers may result in joint training experiences. For example, a church desiring to do literacy missions ministries may work with a local literacy council to obtain training in how to teach English or begin a family literacy program. We will provide opportunities to train volunteers in using the Bible in literacy and sharing their faith. We expect to find others along the way (who are not Baptists) to join us in these events.

In other settings, Literacy ConneXus will provide the entire training program for volunteers. In all settings, we encourage community participation in our programs.

Contact Literacy ConneXus for additional information about training and/or beginning literacy missions ministries.
