Read With Me!
The world’s largest family reading fair to date! This celebration took place on Thursday evening, May 3, 2012, at Western Hills Primary School in Fort Worth. We instructed 130 families on the value of parents reading to children, provided stories and fun for the kids, and gave the families books and bookcases to take home.
Books for the Break!
FBC Copperas Cove made new friends in the community over spring break with a unique Books for the Border and Beyond project. Serving up lunch and stories Monday through Friday, they closed out the week with a bang, giving away 21 beginning home libraries to families in the neighborhood.
Brownsville Literacy Campaign
Literacy Connexus partnered with H-E-B, the Brownsville ISD, the Apasionados pro la LecturaProgram, and churches in Brownsville to host nine family reading fairs on Friday morning, December 16, 2011, with an additional reading fair conducted the following Monday. One hundred and seventy-two families were served. Royal Ambassadors, residents of Trinity Terrace Retirement Community in Fort Worth, First Baptist Church Zachary, Louisiana, and churches across Texas contributed books, bookcases, and funds for this important project.
Royal Ambassadors Books for the Border Project
Royal Ambassadors/Challengers and their leaders built 90 bookcases, collected new and used books, and raised funds for books to help meet family literacy needs along the Texas-Mexico border. Their handiwork and donations were collected at the Missions Mania Camp Out at Latham Springs, November 11–13, 2011.
Books for Amarillo
Literacy Connexs ignited hope in the community at the Texas Baptist Annual Meeting in Amarillo, October 24–25, 2011. More than 20 volunteers joined Literacy Connexus and City Church of Amarillo in hosting a reading fair for preschoolers.
Feria Para Aprender
Literacy Connexus amassed 20,000 books for the first annual Dallas Feria Para Aprender on October 1, 2011. Feria Para Aprender is the nation’s largest Hispanic education and college-readiness event, helping Spanish-speaking parents become key leaders of their children’s academic success.
Baylor University Be the Change Conference
Literacy Connexus connected with Baylor students September 28-October 1, 2011 through a variety of mission fair activities. This annual student-led event offered the Baylor community an intentional look at how God is working around the globe.
