Happy Friday from Literacy Connexus everyone! We hope this blog post finds you happy, healthy, and warm. It is definitely cold (well, Texas cold) this lovely Friday!

Today, I want to share an awesome video series from Rachel’s English that can be used to help our students ace those job interviews. Many students have come into my classroom looking to learn enough English to either get a job or, get a better job. Getting a job and being self sufficient is at the top of many ESL students and immigrants to do lists, and even higher on the refugee to do list since many of them are often on a time crunch to provide for themselves.

Job interviews are the cause of stress and anxiety for most people, and it can be even more stressful when you have a language barrier between you and your interviewer. But, we can help our students by exposing them to common US interview questions, giving them ideas on how to formulate their responses, and of course showing them interview examples and giving them time to practice.

A great resource for this is a five part job interview series for English language learners. It goes over common interview questions, what they mean, possible ways to respond to the questions, and then shows an example of an exchange between an interviewer and a job candidate.

I recently used this series in a civics lesson on getting a job in the United States for my students and they loved it. My students said that it was interesting, helpful, and that it helped them understand the interview questions and how to answer them. I even had students request the links to the videos so that they could re-watch them and practice their answers at home!

Click the videos to check out the series for yourself and share them with your own students.

What do you think of this series? Would you use it for your students? Let us know!

Until next time and as always, blessings and happy teaching!
