Hello, hello, and Happy Tuesday from Literacy Connexus everyone. I hope this blog post finds you all happy, healthy, and full of holiday cheer. Bonus points if you don’t have that nasty cold that’s been going around (which I just so happened to catch) – and well wishes if you did!

What are you doing for Thanksgiving this year?

No, no I mean besides that. Although would you look at that delicious bird! I mean, what are you doing with your students?

My students and I are talking about diversity this Thanksgiving and sharing our customs and holiday traditions – both before and after moving to Texas.

We’re also taking a look at “Thanksgiving” around the world, and other countries similar holidays and traditions with videos like this one:

Another one of my favorite Thanksgiving activities, well it’s actually a project that I assign over the break is a Thanksgiving photo journal. On Thanksgiving Day, I like to ask my students to take 3 pictures to capture their day. They can be any three pictures that they want – which is great for our students who don’t actually celebrate Thanksgiving. Then students have to tell me about the pictures they took and something they were grateful for that day when they come back to class. Alternatively, if your students are tech-savvy you could have them do a short video explaining their day and saying what they’re thankful for.

If you’re looking for more Thanksgiving activity ideas, Fluent U has a great article with 10 traditional Thanksgiving activities.
