Happy Tuesday everyone! We hope that this blog post finds you happy, healthy, and blessed – bonus points if it finds you enjoying this awesome weather.

With Veteran’s Day approaching, all of us here at Literacy Connexus want to take the time to thank each and every man and woman who has served our country. You are seen and appreciated.

Today, we’d also like to thank the Afghan translators who have helped bring some of our soldiers home. We can only hope to honor them a little by supporting Afghan refugees in our communities and churches.

“You’ve saved our lives repeatedly. You’ve been wounded protecting us. Now the day has come where we need to save you.”

These were the words Jay longed to hear after four long years of seeking safety as a refugee.

Jay was only a kid trying to practice his English when he befriended U.S. troops in his home country of Afghanistan. Out of that friendship, Jay spent years as a translator with the United States armed forces, helping to coordinate operations during combat at the front-lines.

When the U.S. military presence left Afghanistan in 2011, Jay was left without protection. He was forced to flee his country as a refugee. Four years later, his American friends called him with the good news: Jay had been approved to come to the United States in recognition of his sacrifice to this country.

We are indebted to Jay, and to all translators, allies, and U.S. Veterans who have served this country to protect our freedoms and safety. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Be sure to thank a veteran this week. As always, blessings and happy teaching!
